வறுமையம் வயதாதலும் (Poverty and the Challenges of the Elderly)

This poverty brief on ageing is based on a literature review undertaken as a part of an assignment for HelpAge Sri Lanka. CEPA carried out a review of two projects implemented by HelpAge Sri Lanka which focused on post tsunami reconstruction and livelihoods support and an elders’ rights based intervention. The literature review aimed at capturing the key developmental challenges that affect the elderly poor in Sri Lanka. It was used to match the appropriateness of HelpAge’s intervention within
the larger context of addressing ageing issues and vulnerabilities in Sri Lanka. This brief summarises the key issues and challenges faced by the elderly that were identified through this process, their support requirements and some suggested solutions to deal with a rapidly ageing population in Sri Lanka.
