Survival of Small-Scale Fisheries in the Post-War Context in Sri Lanka

This essay brings out information based on studies conducted in the Northern and Eastern Provinces and in Puttalam district in the North Western province of Sri Lanka making fishery the focal point. It elaborates the definitions and concepts related to small-scale and other fisheries of Sri Lanka. Details of the current situation of small-scale fishers, the opportunities and constraints, personal stories and experiences of fishers affected by war are brought out as well. Further discussions on current policy environment and action plans related to small-scale fisheries sector and potential solutions for the challenges have been identified
