Highlights of 2014

Governance and Management

At the CEPA Annual General Meeting on 10th July, 2014, three new directors were appointed to the Board to fill in the vacancies left by the completion of the terms of the outgoing directors, Professor Hiran Dias, Professor Savitri Goonesekere and Dr. Dushni Weerakoon. The new Directors are: Dr. Ramani Gunatilaka, Dr. Anila Dias Bandaranaike and Mr. Deshal de Mel. Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy was elected as Chairperson at the Annual General Meeting following the resignation of Professor Savitri Goonesekere, who completed a six-year term as a Member of the Board.

With the confirmation of CEPA’s success in obtaining the second tranche of TTI support for the next four-and-a-half years, the CEPA management also began to implement a new programmatic structure that would facilitate the implementation of our refined strategy. The new structure implemented in November of 2014, sees staff clustered around clear thematic areas, working towards understanding the different facets of poverty and deprivation with a view to providing alternative insights into development theory, policy and practice. The ‘clusters’ are geared to provide greater support to thematic champions. There are currently three such clusters (or Research and Policy [RAP] teams), plus a small communications team, and a research quality and learning team.

The finance and administration teams support the functioning of this structure. Each of the teams is represented on the senior management team, which has expanded to seven members, including the Executive Director.

This Annual Report on the activities and progress of the Centre for Poverty Analysis during the year 2014 is presented by the Board of Directors.
